Are you paying attention to The Sale?
This is the umbrella term I use to describe cultural and behavioral manipulation that is happening via advertising, the media, and pop culture. The Sale is extraordinarily powerful: it penetrates the collective unconscious and it’s always on!
The new sex is being afraid and the new pinnacle of arousal is multiple feargasms you get to share instantly with everyone in your network. It’s disgusting and you know it’s not helping but you can’t not share this horrible event/idea/quote/etc.
Or can you?
Are you responsible for perpetuating The Sale? I know I have been. And I’m sure that it’s not helping.
“But if I don’t buy during a sale it’s like I’m losing money!“
That line used to make me laugh but it’s not really funny in the context of The Sale. Divisiveness is toxic and exhausting. You don’t have to participate. You don’t have to engage in or facilitate that dumb shit.
In fact, you shouldn’t. Because The Sale doesn’t work without you.
It’s easier to destroy than to build. It’s easier to complain than to create solutions. It’s easier to talk about people than ideas. But it’s also easier to sleep than to be awake, isn’t it?
Be a builder. Create solutions. Talk about ideas. Wake up.
And stop buying. Or, at least, start a new sale.
Hasta luego,
–Thomas
